Surface Optics Corporation is a developer and manufacturer of custom instrumentation for measuring optical properties of surfaces. Our product line includes reflectometers and hyperspectral imaging cameras. The majority of our customers come from the aerospace and the defense industries. Our largest customer is the US government, followed by two commercial customers: Boeing and Lockheed. We provide instrumentation to NASA and several National Laboratories as well as consumer products m a n u fa ctu re rs like L âO re a l, Gillette, 3M, Intel, and Maxtor, just to name a few.
There are many good programmers, I will even risk saying that there are many excellent programmers who can write excellent code. But good code and great programming does not necessarily make a satisfying product. In the instrumentation business, software fulfils a broad role: it controls the device, processes the data, and provides the user interface. The product acceptance by customers is largely decided by the quality of the software: its ease of use, its graphic look, its ability to do what the customer would like it to do. It is very rare to find a programmer or a programming group which would have this understanding of the software requirements and be sensitive to those needs. Enformatic is one of those rare groups. Enformatic programming engineers LISTEN to the requirements and implement them. Even more, after learning how to use the product (which they do), they put themselves in the position of a user and propose functions and interface solutions desired by future users. However, the final decision is always left to the product manager. This skill of listening, learning how to use the product and forthcoming with solutions, in addition to writing an excellent code makes them a preferred software developer for Surface Optics Corporation.
